VICTORIA — UPDATE: Dr. Bonnie Henry misspoke during her Thursday briefing. The actual case count for Interior Health Thursday was actually 18, not eight.

EARLIER: British Columbia has set a grim new daily record with its COVID-19 case count.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry reported 425 new cases in the province Thursday (Nov. 5), including 18 within Interior Health.

The 425 new cases were found in 11,020 tests, save for the four cases that are epidemiologically linked to confirmed cases. B.C.’s test-positive rate was 3.8 per cent Thursday.

That brings B.C.’s total since the COVID-19 pandemic began to 16,560, spread through the province as follows:

  • 5,223 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 126)
  • 9,707 — Fraser Health (up by 268)
  • 281 — Island Health (up by 7)
  • 821 — Interior Health (up by 18)*see update
  • 438 — Northern Health (up by 6)
  • 90 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

Henry says there are 3,389 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C., including 97 people in hospital, 24 of whom in critical or intensive care.

Interior Health says there are 104 active cases within the region, with one person in hospital.

There were no new deaths reported Thursday, leaving the provincial death toll from COVID-19 at 273.

A total of 7,519 people are under active public health monitoring because they have come into contact with known cases of the virus.

The number of those considered fully recovered from COVID-19 is now 12,806, or 77 per cent of total recorded cases in B.C.

On a positive note, B.C.’s first school outbreak, at a francophone school in Kelowna, has been declared over. Henry says staff and students can return to school Friday.
