Kamloops records more than twice the normal rainfall amount for October

KAMLOOPS — Environment Canada says Kamloops saw far more rain than usual this October – with more than double the normal amount.

Meteorologist Dave Ray says daily temperatures were right around the seasonal average, but the past month was the eighth wettest October Kamloops has had.

“The Kamloops Airport got 41.5 mm of rain. Normally for October it is 19.4 mm of rain, so we’re at about 214 per cent of normal precipitation. So it was quite a wet month.”

Ray says the rain came from several repeat systems coming from the coast. Throughout this week, the forecast is calling for additional precipitation, but the rest of November should start to dry out.

After that, Ray says the Kamloops region will be entering the stage where snow will arrive, and stay for awhile.

“We might be a few weeks or a month away from snow actually sticking. However over the next three or four weeks I wouldn’t discount snow completely. Especially in the higher plateau, you know, Westsyde areas,” he says, “But normally yeah, it’s usually December or mid-December where we start to see the snow stick.”
