City of Kamloops encourages residents to compost their pumpkins

KAMLOOPS — Now that Halloween is over, the City of Kamloops is urging you to compost your pumpkins.

Pumpkins will be accepted at any of the three yard-waste sites in Kamloops: Cinnamon Ridge Compost Facility, Bunker Road yard waste site or the Barnhartvale yard waste site.

The City is hoping the pumpkin drop off locations will help divert waste from the landfill.

“We’re seeing the tonnages of the pumpkins increasing,” said Glen Farrow, the city’s Streets and Environmental Services Manager. “Last year we had over 28,000 kg of pumpkins. The year before that it was only 13,000, so we are doing a better job of tracking them, and you know, we’re encouraging people to check out the Waste Wise app, download that app if you haven’t downloaded it.”
