Police say that at 11:15 a.m. they received a report of a three vehicle collision on Hwy.97 just north of Simon Fraser bridge. When police arrived they discovered two pick-up trucks and an ambulance involved in the collision.

Three occupants of one of the vehicles fled on foot, however, were located and arrested a short time later with the help of a Police Dog Service team.

Mounties inital investigation has led them to believe that a stolen pick-up truck was driven through a ditch onto Hwy.97 striking the median barricade and then colliding with a southbound ambulance, which then collided with another truck towing a trailer.

The ambulance was transporting two patients at the time of the collision, and RCMP say that alcohol and speed are believed to be a factor.

Several people were injured, however, none are facing life-threatening injuries. The BC RCMP’s Impaired Driving Unit is assisting with the investigation.

The portion of Highway 97 (just south of the intersection with Hwy.16) is expected to be closed for hours while police gather evidence.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Prince George RCMP at (250)561-3300 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1(800)222-8477.
