Interior Health records 24 new COVID-19 cases overnight, 217 new cases identified throughout B.C

VICTORIA — B.C has hit another day of more than 200 new COVID-19 cases.

In a release today (Oct. 27) provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says 217 new cases have been identified.

There are now 2,322 active cases in B.C. While there have been no new deaths recorded today, the number of people hospitalized has grown to 84. Of those, there are 27 people in intensive care.

Meantime, Interior Health (IH) says 24 new cases of COVID-19 were reported overnight in the region for a total of 717 cases in IH since the pandemic began.

92 cases are currently active within the Interior and one person is hospitalized.

So far there have been exposures at Kelowna Secondary School, St. Joseph Elementary School in Kelowna, and an outbreak of 15 cases are linked to the francophone school in the area.

There have now been 13,588 COVID-19 cases in B.C. since the pandemic began, spread as follows:

• 4,476 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 48)
• 7,674 — Fraser Health (up by 145)
• 250 — Vancouver Island (unchanged)
• 717 — Interior Health (up by 24)
• 383 — Northern Health (unchanged)
• 88 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

Dr. Henry states there have been two new health-care facility outbreaks at Felburn Care Centre and St. Michael’s Centre. There are now 21 long-term care or assisted-living facilities and two acute-care facilities with active outbreaks.

There have been no new community outbreaks however there continues to be exposure events around the province.
