Oct 21, 2020 | 9:27 AM

KAMLOOPS — UPDATE (11:00 a.m.): Kamloops RCMP say a large police presence at a Lower Sahali motel Wednesday morning (Oct. 21) was the result of a domestic violence call.

Police responded to the Panorama Inn at about 8:40 a.m. after the report a woman was being victimized in a domestic situation, with the possibility of a weapon present.

In a news release, Sgt. Darren Michels says RCMP stormed the scene and took the man into custody without incident.

Nearby Beattie Elementary School was placed on hold-and-secure protocol briefly during the police response.

Michels says investigators did find a weapon at the scene. The 32-year-old suspect is still in custody.

“We take domestic violence calls very serious and our response is dictated by the information that we receive,” Michels was quoted in the release. “I am happy in this case that things came to a peaceful conclusion.”

Michels notes police believe this is an isolated incident and the public is not at risk.

UPDATE (9:35 a.m.): SD73 Superintendent Terry Sullivan says the hold-and-secure protocol at Beattie Elementary has now ended.
