RCMP investigate early morning murder in Merritt

MERRITT, B.C. — RCMP in Merritt are investigating a murder.

According to a news release issued by RCMP Southeast District spokesman Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, police were called to the report of a shooting just before 1:00 a.m. Thursday (Oct. 15), in the 2600-block of Granite Avenue.

Officers arrived to find a man in medical distress. B.C. EHS attendants rushed the man to hospital, but he was later pronounced dead.

The victim has been identified as a Merritt man in his 20s.

RCMP believe the incident to be targeted and say they do not believe the public is at further risk.

O’Donaghey says the Southeast District Major Crime Unit has taken over the investigation.
