Accused Alberta doctor killer fit for trial
RED DEER, AB – The man accused in the violent death of a Red Deer doctor this summer has been deemed fit to stand trial.
Deng Mabiour is charged with first-degree murder in the Aug. 10 killing of Dr. Walter Reynolds. He is also charged with counts of assault with a weapon and assault of a police officer.
Reynolds, a 45-year-old husband and father of two, was attacked with a weapon while working at the Village Mall Walk-In Clinic and later died in hospital.
Judge Gordon Yake heard Wednesday morning that the psychiatric assessment ordered for Mabiour in September has found that he is fit to stand trial for the killing.
