CACHE CREEK, B.C. — A 21-year-old woman is dead after a horrific chain reaction crash near Cache Creek.

According to BC RCMP Traffic Services spokesman Cpl. Mike Halskov, the incident happened at about 7:55 p.m. on Saturday (Oct. 10), on Highway 97 near the junction with Highway 99.

A southbound vehicle hit a deer, causing the vehicle to lose power in the travel lanes of the highway.

While one person stayed in the vehicle, two stood outside. A second vehicle stopped to try to alert other drivers of the hazard in the road.

Halskov says there was no lighting on that portion of the highway.

A third vehicle, traveling at highway speed, hit the disabled vehicle, sending it careening into the woman standing beside it. She was killed instantly.

The two other occupants as well as the driver of the third vehicle were all taken to hospital for treatment of injuries.

Halskov says all of those involved are from the Central Interior. He notes investigators do not suspect any criminality in the crash.
