KAMLOOPS — Drivers are reminded to take extra caution this weekend, with snowfall warnings and weather statements issued for several high elevation roads in the South Thompson.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the Coquihalla Highway from Merritt to Kamloops, and Hope to Merritt.

Up to 5cm of wet snow is possible tonight (Oct. 11), and an additional 5 to 10 cm could fall Monday evening.

A series of fast moving frontal systems will move through the southern interior tonight and tomorrow, bringing cooler air which will cause snow levels to fall overnight.

The Okanagan Connector from Merritt to Kelowna also has a snowfall warning in effect, with up to 15 cm possible over the Pennask, and Kootenay Pass summits.

Snow is expected to begin falling late this afternoon, and taper off Monday morning. However more snow is possible on Monday evening, before tapering off on Tuesday.

Drivers are reminded to prepare with proper tires for the road conditions, and adjust their driving in areas with heavy snow and poor visibility.
