KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Fire Rescue crews were called to the Coquihalla Highway yesterday evening (Oct. 10), after multiple vehicles slid off the road.

Platoon Captain Wade Lindoff says KFR was called out to several spots on the Coquihalla Highway between Merritt and Kamloops just after 6 p.m.

“They had a weather event up there – a hail storm. There was multiple vehicles, around half a dozen in that area that were off the road,” he says, “They had one extrication to do – there was a pick up truck that was on its side so they assisted the driver out of that vehicle.”

Fortunately Lindoff says there weren’t significant injuries in any of the incidents. He says it appears slippery conditions caused the accidents.

“I think it was likely the result of just catching drivers by surprise. I mean this time of year the temperatures start to drop and we can expect those weather events to happen, and it just catches people by surprise early in the year.”

He adds that at this time of year it’s crucial for drivers to be ready for any kind of sudden weather change.
