CP Rail says expanded track through Kamloops will close walking path

KAMLOOPS — CP Rail says a plan to build more track into downtown Kamloops will result in the closure of an improvised walking path.

In an update to its website, CP says the path, known as Jack Gregson Trail, will close effective November 9. The path lies on CP’s right-of-way and is not maintained by the City of Kamloops.

CP says it needs to build more track to “accommodate the significantly increasing shipment volumes moving through Kamloops to Teck Resources’ expanded Neptune Terminals (in North Vancouver) on Canadian National’s rail network…”

The trail was named after noted entomologist and environmentalist Jack Gregson, who died in 2006. It was the best place to view the rare ice disc that formed in the South Thompson River in January.
