KAMLOOPS — Three Kamloops RCMP officers were injured during the arrest of a hatchet-wielding domestic assault suspect earlier this week.

The update came as part of a news release noting six RCMP officers injured in the Southeast District within the past four days.

A 24-year-old Kamloops man was arrested on Tranquille Road early Wednesday (Oct. 7) after a pair of assault incidents involving a local woman. The suspect allegedly drove erratically to avoid RCMP officers who pursued him before the arrest.

Southeast District RCMP spokesman Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says one Kamloops officer was hurt when the suspect’s vehicle side-swiped the officer’s vehicle, one sustained a lower arm injury while evading the vehicle and one was hurt while taking the suspect into custody.

In addition, O’Donaghey says two Salmon Arm RCMP officers were hurt while apprehending a distraught man inside a home Wednesday.

And an officer in Grand Forks was injured Saturday (Oct. 3) in a confrontation with a reportedly intoxicated man in that community.

In the release, Southeast District Chief Superintendent Brad Haugli commends the officers for putting themselves in harm’s way to keep their communities safe.
