Kamloops Fire Rescue Chief reminds residents to serve up safety for Fire Prevention Week
KAMLOOPS — November 4th to 10th is Fire Prevention Week across British Columbia. That means Kamloops Fire Rescue wants to help the citizens of Kamloops stay safe – especially in their kitchens.
The theme of Fire Prevention Week 2020 is “Serve Up Fire Safety in the Kitchen.” KFR Chief Mike Adams says the kitchen is the focus this year because that’s where many fires in the home begin.
“Over 30 per cent of those residential fires begin in the kitchen,” Adams explains. “I think it’s really important for everyone to recognize that if you’re in the kitchen cooking, you want to make sure you stay there until such time as you’re finished the cooking. Make sure the areas where you’re preparing food are clean. Supervise children – keep them out of the kitchen would be the preference. And obviously, be aware of all those fire hazards and flammable materials around your cooking area.”
