CHASE, B.C — B.C’s police watchdog is investigating the actions of RCMP officers in Chase after a young woman was seriously injured last week.

The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) says it is looking into an incident in the Chase area on October 2. Just after 12:00 p.m that day, RCMP received a report that a young woman had jumped in front of a vehicle on Pine Street in Chase before walking away. An officer arrived on scene and spoke to a young woman matching the description the witness provided.

Minutes later, RCMP received another call about a young woman who had reportedly jumped from the Pine Street Bridge. Emergency Health Services arrived on scene and transported the woman to a local area hospital with serious injuries.

The IIO says it was determined that this was the same young woman the officer had recently spoken to.
