U.S. President and first lady test positive for COVID-19

WASHINGTON – U-S President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump have tested positive for COVID-19.

Trump dropped the bombshell early Friday morning, just hours after Hope Hicks, one of his closest advisers, tested positive herself.

He says he and Melania will quarantine at home, an ironic development for a president and an administration that critics have assailed for a cavalier and haphazard approach to the pandemic.

The revelations are galvanizing Washington with questions about everything from the first family’s true health to how deeply the virus has infected the White House.

Vice-President Mike Pence and his wife Karen, meanwhile, say they have both tested negative for the virus.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and wife Sophie are sending their best wishes to the president and wife. Trudeau says on Twitter that they are hoping for a full recovery for the president and the first lady.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro are also among the leaders who have contracted the illness.

Trump is 74 years old, putting him at higher risk of serious complications from the virus that has killed more than 200-thousand people across the U-S.
