B.C. COVID-19 case count balloons by 161; none in Interior Health

VICTORIA — The province is reporting 161 new cases of COVID-19 Friday (Oct. 2) — but none in Interior Health.

The information comes via a news release from Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.

The 161 new cases bring the B.C. total to 9,381, spread through B.C. as follows:

  • 3,440 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 80)
  • 4,791 — Fraser Health (up by 79)
  • 209 — Island Health (unchanged)
  • 535 — Interior Health (unchanged)
  • 318 — Northern Health (up by 1)
  • 88 — Reside outside of Canada (up by 1)

Henry says there are 1,302 active cases in B.C. as of Friday, including 63 people who are in hospital and 16 in intensive care.

Interior Health says there are 12 active cases in the region, with two people in hospital.

Three more people have died of the virus, bringing the provincial death toll to 238.

A total of 3,114 people are under active public health monitoring because they have been exposed to known COVID-19 cases.

The number of people who are considered fully recovered from the virus is now 7,813, or 83 per cent of all recorded cases.
