KAMLOOPS — As CFJC Today reported Sunday, Kamloops councillor Sadie Hunter will represent the NDP in the Kamloops-North Thompson riding in the Oct. 24 provincial election.

The NDP announced Hunter’s nomination at a McDonald Park news conference Monday morning (Sept. 28).

Hunter is a first-term councillor, having finished seventh in the running for eight council spots after the 2018 municipal vote. This is her first foray into provincial politics.

Hunter says she will take a leave of absence from Kamloops council while she runs for provincial office. She was elected as a director-at-large for the Union of B.C. Municipalities earlier in September, and says she will take a leave from that role as well during the provincial writ period.

Hunter will face B.C. Liberal incumbent and former Kamloops mayor Peter Milobar. No other candidates have announced their intentions to run in Kamloops-North Thompson.

In the 2017 provincial election, Milobar won the riding by a margin of about 18 per cent over NDP challenger Barb Nederpel.
