Kamloops Curling Club cancels season
KAMLOOPS — There will be no “hurry, hurry hard” or the roar of rocks over the pebbled ice at the Kamloops Curling Club this winter. The Club has sent an email to members informing them that the Club will not operate for the 2020/2021 season. The email says the current pandemic is having a substantial impact on the KCC. ViaSport is discouraging gathering before and after curling, which means no hosting of large bonspiels or banquets. The email says “increasing numbers of COVID cases have changed peoples minds about curling this year and potential membership numbers are only 74,8% of what they were last year.” One of the major events affected is the Kamloops Crown of Curling, which won’t take place. It has been held annually since 1974. Kamloops is to host the B.C. men’s and women’s curling championships at McArthur Island in late January. Curl B.C. will make a decision on those events at a later date.
