KAMLOOPS – A pair of students who are taking courses in social work and human services fields at Thompson Rivers University (TRU), plan to host an all-candidates forum to discuss social issues in the October 24 provincial election.

Megan Dalgleish and Rachel Knuttila are working with the Thompson Nicola Branch of the BC Association of Social Workers to set up the forum. They’re hoping to host the forum online on Tuesday October 6 at 3:00 p.m.

Dalgleish and Knuttila are third-year social work students. “We are preparing for careers in social work and human services because we care about people and our community, and we believe government has an important role to play in ensuring the well-being of all,” said Dalgleish in a news release.

“One only needs to look around Kamloops to know that mental health, substance use, homelessness, and poverty are significant issues and that there are insufficient resources available to meet the demand,” said Knuttila. “We want to know what the candidates will do about these and other social issues if elected.”
