Province reports daily increase of 148 new COVID-19 cases; five in Interior Health

VICTORIA —The province is reporting 148 new cases of COVID-19 today (Sep. 24). Across B.C., 1,371 cases of the virus are considered active.

The Interior Health region has an increase of five cases for a total of 520.

There have been two more deaths, both in the Fraser Health region. The B.C. death toll is now at 229. Currently, 61 people are in hospital, including 20 in critical care or ICU.

Today’s data brings the provincial total to 8,543 cases since the pandemic began in B.C., spread through the province as follows:

  • 3,094 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 78)
  • 4,361 — Fraser Health (up by 59)
  • 203 — Island Health (unchanged)
  • 520 — Interior Health (up by 5)
  • 278 — Northern Health (up by 5)
  • 87 — Reside outside of Canada (up by 1)

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says while there have been exposure events within schools there have been no outbreaks.

“We are monitoring and health authorities and Public Health is there for every single school and we will continue to be there as we move through this pandemic,” Henry said.

A total of 3,417 people are under active public health monitoring due to contacts with known COVID-19 cases.
