KAMLOOPS — Near the beginning of the pandemic, the federal government committed to $350 million to support community organizations facing economic uncertainty around COVID-19.

On Tuesday, The Mustard Seed received some money to help support its clients.

The Mustard Seed Kamloops was the recipient of a $25,000 cheque from the BC Interior Community Foundation, which has been distributing the Emergency Community Support Fund on behalf of the federal government. The Mustard Seed plans to use the money towards advocacy, helping its clients meet their life goals.

“This $25,000 will go a long way, helping each individual here that we serve find ways to get back on their feet,” said executive director of The Mustard Seed Kamloops Mario Borba. “So it’s all involved in advocacy. We walk alongside the individual to achieve their goals. It’s all goal-oriented. They give us what they are wanting to achieve and we will help them achieve it, either finding ID, finding housing, finding employment.”

The Mustard Seed plans to hire a part-time advocacy coach with portions of the grant money.
