KAMLOOPS — The Royal Inland Hospital Foundation has received a generous donation that will help fund a new room at the Patient Care Tower, which is scheduled to be finished in two years.

On Thursday morning (Sept. 10), the foundation accepted a $60,000 cheque from the owners of Earl’s Kamloops. The money will be used towards the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Room in the new tower.

“It’s always needed and during this time more than ever, and we are thrilled that Earl’s was able, being part of the service industry, to come up with this during this time,” said Director of Community Partnerships with the RIH Foundation Julie Kimmel. “It really shows the community of Kamloops that the community can come together like this and that Earl’s is able to say ‘thank-you’ to our community with such a large donation. It’s incredible.”

Co-owner Steve Faraday says when Earl’s closed down in March due to COVID-19, he didn’t know what the future held. But as the restaurant started to re-open, the customers came back in numbers, sparking the idea of giving back to the community.

“We expected nothing. We had expected to make no money,” said Faraday during the uncertain times after COVID hit. “So [co-owner] Cindy [Humphrey], [GM] Cody [Rose] and I talked about how we could repay the people who supported us and helped us. Actually, one of the really good customers here, Tim Bell, and Julie from the hospital foundation suggested that was a way to do it. We could give to the hospital. It helps the entire community.”
