KAMLOOPS — The opposition Conservatives have released their shadow cabinet list, with Kamloops Thompson Cariboo’s MP named the Shadow Minister for Crown Indigenous Relations.

Cathy McLeod’s position on the roster is not unfamiliar, as the local MP previously held the shadow role between 2015 and 2019.

“Really honoured that our new leader Erin O’Toole has asked me to assume this role again. Obviously an important role, and a huge opportunity.”

McLeod says she plans to hold the Liberal government accountable for promises made around bringing clean water to Indigenous communities who still go without. She also wants to push for improved economic opportunities, and land use partnerships with First Nations.

“So for example, the resolution of land issues. And I’ll even use the Agricultural Land Centre right by us,” she says, “For seven years, that process has been going on with no resolution, and there’s no excuse for that to take so long… Let’s have a future for that piece of property, let’s have a partnership for our communities.”
