Province reports 89 new COVID-19 cases Thursday, including five in Interior Health

VANCOUVER — The province has eclipsed the 6,000 case count landmark for COVID-19, with 89 new cases reported Thursday (Sept. 3).

Speaking from Vancouver, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said five of those new cases were recorded in Interior Health.

The total of 6,041 cases have been spread through B.C. as follows:

• 2,012 (Vancouver Coastal)
• 3,155 (Fraser Health)
• 178 (Island Health)
• 450 (Interior Health)
• 167 (Northern Health)
• 79 (Reside outside of Canada)

There are now 1,175 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C., including 34 in hospital, of whom 11 are in critical care or intensive care.

One more person has died of COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, bringing the provincial death toll to 210.

There are 2,801 people under active public health monitoring due to exposure to known cases.

Of the total recorded cases, 4,644 people are considered fully recovered, or 77 per cent.

Meantime, Dr. Henry updated the province’s modelling. It shows, in recent weeks, COVID-19 infections rising in the younger age demographics, many of whom acquired the virus in private parties or restaurant and bar settings.

Henry says it is still within the power of British Columbians to bend the epidemic curve back down after a recent uptick in cases.
