Busy August has Kamloops construction sector building toward fourth straight record year

KAMLOOPS — August was another big month for the Kamloops construction sector as it pushes toward a fourth straight record-setting year in 2020.

Month-end numbers released by the City of Kamloops show $35.5 million in construction permits issued last month.

At the two-thirds mark in 2020, the City’s Building Inspection Division has already issued $224.9 million in permits, 20 per cent more than at the same time in 2019.

The year-end record for Kamloops was set last year at $288.3 million.

Nearly half of last month’s construction activity took place in the commercial category, with seven project permits totalling more than $17 million.
