City’s COVID-19 protocols contain positive case to single employee

KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops says a recent positive COVID-19 test from one of its staff members proves the importance of heightened safety protocols.

CAO David Trawin confirmed today that a senior employee has tested positive for COVID-19, and is recovering at home in isolation.

The staff member was present at the last in-person council session on Tuesday August 25, however his exposure to the virus occurred after that meeting.

Trawin says Interior Health confirmed that the city’s physical distancing, and cleaning protocols were effective in containing the exposure to a single employee.

“This is a situation where City employees were near someone who had tested positive for COVID,” says Trawin. ”However, public health officials found that because of the physical distancing and cleaning protocols that we have put in place, none of the employees who may have been exposed, are at risk and they are not considered to be contacts.”

He adds that the lack of spread to other staff members is a clear example of why the stringent measures are so important at this time.

“This is evidence that our safety protocols are working and they are crucial to our efforts at keeping our employees and the public as protected as we can,” said Trawin. “We remind everyone to be vigilant and continue to practice physical distancing, cleaning, and handwashing, and to stay home when ill—all the efforts that you have been making to keep yourself and each other safe.”
