BC health officials reporting 104 new COVID-19 cases

VICTORIA — There have been 104 new cases of COVID-19 identified in B.C. as of Wednesday (Sept. 2), according to provincial health officials.

Health Minister Adrian Dix and provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry issued a joint statement, saying there are now 1,127 active cases of COVID-19.

On top of those confirmed cases, Dr. Henry says there are 2,786 people under active public health monitoring after exposure to individuals with known cases.

With five additional cases reported in the interior region, Interior Health’s case count has grown to 445 since the start of the pandemic.

33 people are currently hospitalized with the virus – 14 of whom in intensive care. No new deaths were recorded, so B.C’s virus death toll remains at 209.

4,605 of the people who tested positive have now recovered.

There have now been 5,952 cases reported in B.C., spread through the province as follows:

• 1,974 (Vancouver Coastal)
• 3,112 (Fraser Health)
• 178 (Island Health)
• 445 (Interior Health)
• 164 (Northern Health)
• 79 (Reside outside of Canada)

There has been one new health-care facility outbreak at the Surrey Memorial Hospital, while the outbreak at the Langley Memorial hospital has been declared over. Eight long-term care or assisted living facilities, and two acute care facilities have active outbreaks. No new community outbreaks have been identified however there continues to be community exposure events.
