One new virus-related death and 58 new COVID-19 cases recorded in B.C

VICTORIA — B.C. entered September with 58 new cases of COVID-19 today (Sept. 1) along with another death.

In a joint release, Health Minister Adrian Dix, and provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry say there are now 1,124 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. The new cases bring the provincial total to 5,848 since the pandemic began in B.C.

Dr. Henry says there are 2,761 people under active public health monitoring as a result of exposure to known cases.

31 people are hospitalized with COVID-19, 10 of whom are in intensive care. One death was also reported today, for a total of 209 virus fatalities in the province.

Dr. Henry says 4,505 people who tested positive have now recovered.

There have now been 5,848 cases reported in B.C., spread through the province as follows:

  • 1,922 (Vancouver Coastal)
  • 3,072 (Fraser Health)
  • 175 (Island Health)
  • 440 (Interior Health)
  • 160 (Northern Health)
  • 79 (Reside outside of Canada)

There have been no new health-care facility outbreaks, with ten outbreaks still active within long term care or assisted living and acute care facilities.

No new community outbreaks were reported however, there continues to be community exposure events.
