City hopes to finish streets line painting this month

KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops was delayed in its lines painting this year, but hopes to get the job done by the end of this month.

When the COVID-19 pandemic arrived in Kamloops, many regular operations were delayed due to staffing levels and the challenges of physical distancing.

Streets and Environmental Services Manager Glen Farrow says some of the work that was late to start was line painting and the patching of pot holes.

“Through May and June, that’s where we painted all of our crosswalks, so a lot of the markings, crosswalks, we prioritized getting that completed and out of the way because of pedestrian safety,” Farrow said, “that’s kind of the bigger focus is that. And then the long lines, so the long lines, one of the greatest impacts on that, aside from any COVID concerns is the weather that we had through June and July was extremely wet, not just in Kamloops, but across the province.”

According to Farrow, the contractor the City has in place has a lot of work to do across the province, much of which was delayed.

Crews are touching up some corners ahead of the contractor’s arrival and the goal is to have the lines completed by the end of September.

“If you are seeing any concerning problems throughout the community, if that’s related to an area where there is no markings or the layout hasn’t taken place there, or some large pot holes, feel free to use our app, the myKamloops app, or contact the direct line at 250-828-3461 at the Operations Centre and we’ll be sure to address that in short order,” Farrow said.
