ENDERBY, B.C — B.C’s Independent Investigations Office is looking into police actions, after a man was injured in a vehicle incident near Enderby yesterday (Aug. 30).

In a release, RCMP say just before 11 a.m Sunday, police in the Southeast District received multiple complaints of a man riding a motorcycle with no license plate and no helmet. Callers had reports that the motorcycle was speeding in and out of traffic in Lake Country, Vernon, and Enderby on Highway 97.

An officer found the motorcycle in Lake Country, but the rider allegedly failed to stop and the officer did not pursue. Police say another officer then located the motorcycle in Enderby along Highway 97, but was unable to stop the rider.

Around 11:30 a.m, Enderby RCMP responded to a head-on collision involving a motorcycle and a pick-up truck on Highway 97 near Grindrod. Police confirmed that the rider and motorcycle involved were the same that officers had tried to stop.

The rider was seriously injured and taken to a local area hospital by BC Emergency Health Services. Meantime, the driver and passenger of the pick-up truck were not physically injured.

The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP are continuing to investigate the driving infractions, and the IIO is investigating to determine whether police actions or inactions are linked to the man’s injuries.

No further information will be released by the RCMP as the incident is under investigation.
