Fifty-eight new COVID-19 cases recorded in B.C. Tuesday; no new cases in Interior

VICTORIA — Provincial health officials have reported 58 new cases of COVID-19 Tuesday (Aug. 25), though none of the new cases were found in Interior Health.

According to a news release from Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry, the 58 new cases bring the provincial total to 5,242, spread through B.C. as follows:

  • 1,683 (Vancouver Coastal)
  • 2,762 (Fraser Health)
  • 168 (Island Health)
  • 425 (Interior Health)
  • 128 (Northern Health)
  • 76 (Reside outside of Canada)

The number of active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. is up to 925, including 22 people in hospital and seven in intensive care.

There have been no new deaths due to the virus, leaving the provincial death toll at 203.

The number of people under active public health monitoring because they have been in contact with a known case is now 2,675.

There are 4,114 patients considered fully recovered from COVID-19, or 78 per cent of the total recorded cases.

Dr. Henry reported two new outbreaks in the healthcare system — one at Bear Creek Villa retirement community in Surrey and one at Langley Memorial Hospital.
