Hall of Fame and Sports Council Awards

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Sports Hall of Fame inductions and Sports Council Awards were presented last night (Aug. 21).

Normally held in the spring, the ceremony was postponed because of COVID-19 and was presented in a virtual online broadcast.

Four individuals and one team were inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame.

The individual inductees are Terry Bangen for hockey, figure skating’s Kim Scott-Kryger, Ray Olsen in curling, Michelle Pye soccer and football’s Brad Yamaoka.

The Eve Skakun curling team was inducted in the team category.

Following are the Sports Council Award winners for the 2019 calendar year:

Female Athlete – Canadian Finals Rodeo barrel racing champion Brooke Wills.

Male Athlete – Kamloops Track and Field hammer thrower Kian Zabini.

Coach of the Year – Dylan Armstrong throws coach at the Kamloops Track and Field Club.

Master’s Athlete of the Year – Kate Stebbings in ironman triathlon.

Team of the Year – South Kam Secondary girls basketball team.

University Award – Jan Pirretas Glasmacher TRU men’s soccer.

International Excellence Award – Greg Stewart for shot put.

Award of Excellence – Carmin Mazzotta TRU cross country coach.
