CHASE, B.C — Chase RCMP are investigating a recent shooting and hit-and-run incident that may be connected.

In a release from Sgt. Barry Kennedy, RCMP say around 3:00 a.m Thursday (Aug. 20) officers had received multiple reports of a man being shot near Squilax-Anglemont Road.

The injured man had left the scene but was found shortly after by police and taken to hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening. Sgt. Kennedy says a suspect has been identified, but not arrested yet. It’s believed the suspect and victim knew each other and this was not a random incident, so RCMP say the public is not at risk.

As the shooting investigation was underway, officers responded to a report of a serious motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle. The motorcycle driver did suffer potentially life threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.

An initial collision investigation by Chase RCMP and the Southeast District Central Interior Traffic Services confirmed that a second vehicle was involved and fled the scene.

The suspect vehicle is described as a white Ford Explorer with extensive damage to its front end. Police say the damage would have likely prevented it from being driven far from the crash scene. A ground and air search is ongoing but so far police have been unable to locate the suspect vehicle.

RCMP state in the release that they have not yet ruled out the possibility that these two incidents may be related.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Chase RCMP at 250-679-3221 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
