Aug 19, 2020 | 7:38 AM

KAMLOOPS — Recent lightning activity has rapidly increased the number of wildfires in the province.

There are 106 fires of various sizes currently burning, with 90 of those fires springing up in the last two days. Over 50 percent of the fires are in the Southeast Fire Centre, thanks to a recent lightning storm Sunday. There are 18 fires currently burning in the Kamloops Fire Centre.

Only two fires of note right now, and that’s the one north of Okanagan Falls and the Solomon Mountain fire near Beaverdell, both of which have evacuation orders or alerts attached to them.

The Okanagan Falls fire is also the largest fire in the province by a substantial margin. Only two other fires in the province are currently 100 kilometers or larger.
