Province sees 83 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, active count at 775

VICTORIA — The number of active COVID-19 cases in B.C. continues to grow.

In a news release issued Tuesday (Aug. 18), provincial health officials say 83 new cases were recorded in the past 24 hours, bringing the province-wide total to 4,677.

The cases are spread through B.C. as follows:

  • 1,447 (Vancouver Coastal)
  • 2,473 (Fraser Health)
  • 156 (Island Health)
  • 407 (Interior Health)
  • 120 (Northern Health)
  • 74 (Reside outside of Canada)

There are two more cases Tuesday within Interior Health.

The active case count in B.C. is up to 775, though just six people are hospitalized with COVID-19, including three in intensive care.

The number of people considered fully recovered from the virus is now 3,704, or 79 per cent of all recorded cases.

There are no new deaths Tuesday, with the provincial death toll remaining at 198.

The province saw no new outbreaks, either in the healthcare system or communities.
