RCMP say second person dead after Savona-area crash Thursday

SAVONA, B.C. — RCMP now say two people died after a crash on the Trans Canada Highway near Savona Thursday (Aug. 13).

The crash happened just after 5:00 p.m. near the intersection of the Trans Canada and Deadman Vidette Road west of Savona.

In a news release issued Friday, RCMP say a westbound Ford Fiesta crossed the centre line and collided head-on with an eastbound Dodge Journey.

The driver of the Fiesta, an 84-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The two occupants of the Journey were rushed to hospital in serious condition. Unfortunately, a 77-year-old woman who was the passenger subsequently succumbed to her injuries. The 83-year-old man who was driving remains in serious condition in hospital.

All involved were from the local area.
