Interior Health says closure of temporary COVID-19 testing site driven by case stabilization in Kelowna

KELOWNA — Interior Health says COVID-19 testing in Kelowna will now be centralized out of one main location.

When cases began to rapidly rise in Kelowna several weeks ago, a temporary COVID-19 testing site was set up at the Community Health Services Centre. IH says with the number of new cases stabilizing again, the temporary site will be suspended.

Effective today (August 11) people seeking a COVID-19 test can do so through Interior’s Health’s testing centre at the Kelowna Urgent and Primary Care Centre (UPCC).

Testing is conducted by appointment between 9:30 a.m and 8:30 p.m seven days a week to all people with symptoms. Appointments can be made over the phone at 250-469-6985.

Interior Health says the symptoms of COVID-19 include:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Other milder symptoms may include: runny nose, fatigue, body aches (muscles and joints aching), diarrhea, headache, sore throat, vomiting and red eyes.

IH says anyone experiencing symptoms, however mild, should be tested. There is capacity at the UPCC site to handle current demand for testing, but the expanded testing facility can be quickly re-activated if needed.
