VICTORIA — B.C health officials announced 46 new cases of COVID-19 today (Aug. 11), with no new deaths. Today marks 11 reporting periods with no new virus-related fatalities in the province, with the most recent death recorded on July 31.

Of the 4,111 total cases in B.C, there are currently 472 active cases. While 3,444 people who tested positive for COVID-19 have now recovered.

In a joint update with Health Minister Adrian Dix, provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says there are eight people in hospital with COVID-19, five of whom in intensive care. Interior Health added two more cases, for a total of 393.

Here is where the cases in B.C. have been found:

  • 1,232 (Vancouver Coastal)
  • 2,167 (Fraser Health)
  • 148 (Vancouver Island Health)
  • 393 (Interior Health)
  • 100 (Northern Health)
  • 71 (Reside outside of Canada)

There continues to be community exposure events and Dr. Henry says contact tracing is being used to mitigate new growth in cases. She says the number of people now self isolating is a direct result of public health teams tracing those who have been exposed.

“Remember, we can all help public health teams in contact tracing by using the skills we have learned: Keep gatherings small, have a designated ‘contact keeper,’ limit time with others, maintain physical distance, and always stay home if you’re feeling unwell.”

There are no new community, or health-care facility outbreaks, and eight assisted living or acute care facility outbreaks remain active.
