53 new COVID-19 cases, four more in Interior Health Region

VICTORIA — There are 53 new positive cases of COVID-19 in B.C. today (Aug. 8).

A release put out by the Ministry of Health and the office of the Provincial Health Officer states there are now 386 active cases in the province.

There have been a total of 3,934 cases to date in B.C. The Interior Health Region has an increase of four new cases for a total of 389. No new deaths are being reported with the death toll remaining at 195.

Here is where the cases in B.C. have been found:

  • 1,167 (Vancouver Coastal)
  • 2,069 (Fraser Health)
  • 147 (Vancouver Island Health)
  • 389 (Interior Health)
  • 93 (Northern Health)
  • 69 (Reside outside of Canada)

“There has been one new health-care facility outbreak at Derby Manor in the Fraser Health region,” the release reads. “In total, five long-term care or assisted-living facilities and one acute-care facility have active outbreaks.”

There are no new community outbreaks.

Health officials are encouraging B.C. residents to be responsible this weekend in order to keep the curve flat.
