MERRITT — Merritt RCMP are asking the public for more information after a man was allegedly touching children inappropriately.

On August 2, Merritt RCMP were called to the Claybanks R.V Park along Voght Street for a report of an intoxicated man touching children inappropriately. Police arrived on scene and spoke with several children and residents to garner a description of the man, and what had occurred.

24-year-old Skylar McLeod of Merritt was found nearby and arrested. He has now been charged with sexual interference, two counts of failing to comply with a probation order, failing to comply with a prohibition regarding children, and two counts of assault.

He is expected to appear in a Kamloops court Thursday (Aug. 6).

Staff Sergeant Major Steph Drouin of the Merritt RCMP is asking “anyone with information that have not yet already spoken to police to call the Merritt RCMP at 250-378-4262.”

RCMP also add that McLeod is currently bound by previous court imposed release conditions, and is not to have contact or communication or be alone with anyone who is or appears to be under the age of 16-years-old.
