VERNON — RCMP have arrested a woman in connection to recent murder in the North Okanagan.

In a release, the B.C RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit says 59-year-old Lynda Saundry has been arrested and formally charged with the first degree murder of 55-year-old Barry Jones.

Jones’ body was found in a home near Round Lake Thursday morning (July 30). The Vernon RCMP Integrated Forensic Identification Section was brought in to support the Southeast District Major Crime Unit in the investigation. Police have not said how Jones died or what state his remains were in. The B.C Coroners Service is investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.

RCMP say Saundry was remanded to appear in Vernon Law Courts today (August 4), and the B.C Prosecution Service has approved a charge of first-degree murder.

“The accused and the victim were known to one another and our major crime investigators are now focussing on preparing for the judicial process.” states BC RCMP Major Crimes Operations Officer, Supt. Sanjaya Wijayakoon.

North Okanagan Rural RCMP adds that it continues to support both Jones’ family, and his community.
