One more death, 23 new COVID-19 cases reported in B.C

VICTORIA — The province is reporting 23 new cases of COVID-19 today (July 28), bringing the provincial case count to 3,523 so far.

In a joint news release, Health Minister Adrian Dix, and Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry say there are now 253 active cases of COVID-19 around B.C.

Of the 23 new cases, five originate from the Interior Health region, which has now recorded 358 cases.

3,076 of the 3,523 people who have tested positive for the virus have recovered. There are nine people hospitalized and three in critical care. The remaining people with COVID-19 are in self-isolation at home.

One more death was reported today, bringing B.C’s death toll to 194.

Here is where the 3,500 cases in B.C. have been found:

  • 1,067 (Vancouver Coastal)
  • 1,815 (Fraser Health)
  • 143 (Vancouver Island Health)
  • 358 (Interior Health)
  • 80 (Northern Health)
  • 60 (Reside outside of Canada)

Dr. Henry adds that there have been no new health-care facility outbreaks. One long-term care facility and two acute-care facilities have active outbreaks. Additionally, there are no new community outbreaks while the active outbreaks on Haida Gwaii and at Fraser Valley Packers Inc. are being monitored.

Heading into the B.C Day long weekend, Dr. Henry, and Minister Dix remind British Columbians to keep groups small, and maintain safe distances to protect one another.

Those staying in vacation rentals (hotels, houseboats, etc) are reminded of the new provincial health officer orders which limit gatherings to the capacity of the space, plus a maximum of five visitors.
