Heat warnings issued for B.C interior regions

KAMLOOPS — With hot weather already making its presence known, Environment Canada has issued heat warnings for several regions in B.C.

Starting today (July 26), temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius, alongside overnight lows near 18 degrees are expected in the South Thompson region.

Environment Canada says the heat comes from a strong ridge of high pressure building over the southern interior of B.C.

The heat warning is also in effect for the Shuswap, North Thompson, Cariboo, Fraser Canyon, and the Okanagan Valley.

This period of heat is anticipated to last until at least Wednesday, when temperatures are expected to settle down as the ridge of high pressure weakens.

The forecaster notes that young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, and people working or exercising outdoors are at a greater risk of heat related illness during this time.

People are advised to drink plenty of water, and stay in a cool place when possible. This includes pets, who should not be left inside a parked vehicle.
