Kamloops Film Society keeps Twin Rivers Drive-in going through September

KAMLOOPS — While some movie theatres in British Columbia are open to the public, none of those are in Kamloops. However, for those yearning to see a movie on the big screen, the Kamloops Film Society (KFS) is continuing to run the Twin Rivers Drive-In weekends on McArthur Island

This week’s double feature is Trolls, followed by the first Avengers movie. KFS Executive Director Dusan Magdolen says the first few weeks of the outdoor drive-in experience have gone well and he’s looking forward to these events continuing throughout the summer.

“People seem to really like it,” Magdolen tells CFJC Today. “When people hear [the movies are shown] on the side of a building they maybe not sure what to expect, but the projectors are so good now… so people have a really good time. It’d obviously be nice to do a concession, which currently isn’t allowed, but other than that, it works really smoothly there.”

While some cinemas in other areas of the province, none of the movie theatres in Kamloops plan to open their doors to the public soon. Magdolen suggests the Film Society could be targeting the fall to start welcoming guests back to the Paramount.

“The hope would be to open during the week, maybe a day or two in September and then in October start a more regular line-up like we were doing. Maybe four nights a week, type of thing. But it’s all in flux. It depends on what’s available, what could be playing, and what the demand is.”
