Province says fix for East Shuswap Road must wait until river level drops
KAMLOOPS — It will be weeks before provincial officials can get started enacting a fix for East Shuswap Road.
The road is down to one lane across from Valleyview due to bank erosion on the South Thompson River.
According to the province’s Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, design work has begun on a fix for the stretch, but it can only be completed once the river level drops significantly. The ministry says that may take several weeks.
Once the freshet subsides and a design is complete, officials will need to excavate into the river, rebuild the road embankment and protect the bank with large rip-rap, a process requiring regulatory approvals.
