Twenty-one new COVID-19 cases in B.C., 27 now related to Kelowna exposure

VICTORIA — The province says the number of COVID-19 cases related to an exposure event in Kelowna is now up to 27.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry updated COVID-19 totals in a news conference Thursday (July 16).

She reported 21 new cases in B.C., 18 of which were from positive tests and three cases that were epidemiologically linked to other cases.

The total of cases in B.C. is now 3,170, spread out as follows:

  • 1,028 (Vancouver Coastal)
  • 1,667 (Fraser Health)
  • 136 (Island Health)
  • 223 (Interior Health)
  • 65 (Northern Health)
  • 51 (Reside outside of Canada)

The total for Interior Health is up seven Thursday to 223, largely related to the Kelowna exposure event at the end of June and beginning of July.

There are now four cases related to the Krazy Cherry Fruit Company in Oliver.

Dr. Henry reported 192 active cases in B.C., including 15 people who are in hospital and three in critical or intensive care.

There were no new deaths Thursday, leaving the death toll at 189 for B.C.

The total of those considered fully recovered is now 2,789, up to 88 per cent.
