City of Kamloops to reopen boat launches Friday

KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops will try re-opening its boat launches again Friday (July 17).

Boat launches at McArthur Island, Pioneer Park and Thompson Drive were initially closed on May 28 due to high water on the Thompson Rivers.

As the water began to subside, the launches reopened on June 19 in time for Father’s Day weekend.

But the water rose again after a rainy stretch, and the boat launches were closed again on June 25.

Even with the reopening Friday, City of Kamloops officials remind boaters to take precautions on the water.

In addition to watching out for debris, boaters are asked to keep speeds low to prevent erosion of riverbanks.

Walkers and cyclists will also be pleased to learn the Rivers Trail between Riverside Park and Pioneer Park will also reopen.
