RCMP respond to report of firearms near Sicamous
KAMLOOPS — A report of a man pointing a firearm at a passing vehicle between Sicamous and Salmon Arm brought a heavy police response to the area Monday afternoon (July 13).
Corporal Jesse O’Donaghey of the Southeast District RCMP says they got a call from a motorist just before 3:00 PM Monday afternoon to say she saw a man pointing what she believed to be a rifle at her vehicle as she drove along the Trans Canada.
Frontline officers from Sicamous and Salmon Arm, along with the Emergency Response Team, who happened to be training in the area, responded in full force. Shortly after, police arrested a man without incident. Corporal O’Donaghey says the man had been hitchiking in the area. No weapon was found, but he had been holding up a metal pipe, which police think could have been mistaken for a rifle barrel.
