Minneapolis — Dean Evason is now the full-time coach of the Minnesota Wild. GM Bill Guerin announced today that the former Kamloops player and Blazers coach would have the “interim” tag dropped from his name.

Evason was named interim Head Coach of the Wild on Feb. 14, 2020, and led the team to an 8-4-0 record (.667). He is in his second season with Minnesota after being named an Assistant Coach in 2018.

Aside from his NHL and AHL coaching experience, he was a head coach in the WHL including a three year stint as coach of the Blazers from 1999-2002. He played 803 career NHL games with several different teams. Evason’s Wild, which also has former Blazer Devan Dubnyk in goal, take on the Vancouver Canucks in a first-round playoff series in early August.

Evason’s best moment in Kamloops came in 1984 when, as a member of the Junior Oilers, he scored the tying goal against Regina with less than 20 seconds left in game six of the WHL final, leading Kamloops to an overtime win and a win in game 7 to advance to the Memorial Cup.
